The Devil Wears Prada (1/5) Movie CLIP – Gird Your Loins! (2006) HD

Andrea, a young professional from Manhattan, is having a hard time adjusting to her new job at a top fashion magazine called Runway. She’s been given the job of being Miranda’s assistant.

In a fashion world of thin skin and competitive rivalry, Miranda Priestly is one of the most powerful women in New York. As the editor-in-chief of a leading fashion magazine, she has a profound influence on the city’s elite, and she can determine which designs are deemed worthy of the front cover of her magazine. While Andy Sachs is an unknown graduate who finds herself on Miranda’s path to the top, she becomes her assistant. At first, Andy resents Miranda, but their relationship grows as Andy learns the ways of the fashion world and she earns Miranda’s respect. Miranda is a power-hungry woman who is always on the lookout for new ways to increase her position, and Andy’s naivety and lack of fashion experience are the perfect way to gain Miranda’s trust. But just as Andy starts to think she has a chance to become editor-in-chief, Miranda discovers that she is not suited to the position and demotes her to associate editor.

Meryl Streep received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for her role in the film. She was required to audition for the role and was initially unsure of whether to accept the role. After reading the script, she realized she had to be the first choice, as she knew the character well and could play it the way she wanted to.[9] After the initial script meeting with Frankel, she called Wintour to make sure she could do the role, and after Wintour gave her the green light, she signed on for the film.

Streep studied the character of Miranda for a year before filming, and spent time at the top floor of the House of Chanel, in the “real” Chanel store in Paris, and in the House of Fendi, in Rome, to gain a feel for what the character would be like in each location.

At first she is frustrated but gradually she learns the ropes and struggles to stand out in order to be noticed by A-List celebrities and designers.
